In and Out of Space: Critical Approaches to Spatiality in Sound and Image is a two day doctoral training workshop at the University of Aberdeen, and features keynotes, workshops and performances by Professor Paul Koonce (University of Florida), Trond Lossius (BEK) and Johannes Deutsch.
During Borealis, Signe Lidén and Espen Sommer Eide present a new work utilizing a series of mobile meteorological music instruments and performative microphones. Using Fjell festning as a place, they investigate how sound is shaped by, and resonates in various environments.
The work is developed at BEK, and commissioned by Sonic Acts and Dark Ecology.
How do we listen, and how do you compose when the audience is surrounded by sound? Borealis collaborates with the MULTI concert series to commission new works for multi-channel speaker setup, giving new musicians, composers and sound artists the opportunity to express themselves using spatial sound.
MULTI is a collaboration between Lydgalleriet, NOTAM, Borealis, Electric Audio Unit and BEK.
Wings and Chains is a collaboration between the composer Mansoor Hosseini and the visual artist Line Hvoslef, inspired by Igor Stravinsky’s piece Firebird. The music is complimented by a video projection and a solo dancer on the stage, and reflects the fairytale of the ballet.
Hvoslef’s video is filmed with BEK’s equipment, and is edited with counseling by and at BEK.
