Så jævla sanntid: Introduction to Max in Verktøykassen

Our latest Verktøykassen (the Toolbox) offering is an introductory workshop in the development tool Max: a flexible, powerful visual programming software that uses on-screen boxes and ‘wires’. In addition to making complex sounds and music, you will have the opportunity to manipulate videos and create animations. Max also allows you to connect all kinds of keyboards, controller knobs and other Arduino-based…

Så jævla sanntid: Digital series

In 2020, BEK is celebrating its 20 year anniversary and throughout the year we will present a number of different projects – both new artistic projects and a selection from our archive. First up is “Så jævla sanntid” (“So damn real-time”) 2020 – a series where we explore various digital formats and show them online. In the coming months, we…

Verktøykassen: Soldering

In this Verktøykassen (the Toolbox) we will learn basic soldering. We start by creating a prototype on a protoboard, which we then will move to a permaprotoboard. In exhibition scenarios or other similar uses where, for example, your Arduino is to be used by people, it is essential to secure solder links to prevent the circuit from breaking.

BEK - Soldering 13.02.2020–13.02.2020

Verktøykassen invites #2: Poetic kinetic sculpture course with Niklas Adam/Verdensteatret

As part of Verktøykassen (the Toolbox), we invite artists to teach us things we cannot ourselves. In this course you will build your own kinetic sculpture based on motors and wireless control system. Get ideas and inspiration for ugly and beautiful movement patterns from Niklas Adam, who has long experience working with the Verdensteatret‘s famous installations and performances.

BEK - Poetic kinetic sculpture course 23.01.2020–23.01.2020

Verktøykassen invites #1: 3D modeling and CNC milling in artistic practice, with Magnhild Øen Nordahl/Aldea

As part of Verktøykassen (the Toolbox), we invite artists to teach us things we cannot ourselves. Visual artist Magnhild Øen Nordahl will speak about how she uses 3D modeling as a tool and conceptual point of departure in her artistic practice and in her ongoing artistic research project at the Academy of Fine Arts, KMD/UiB. After the presentation, she will…

Verktøykassen: Arduino

Arduino is a small circuit board that you can use to bring the physical world into the data world, and the data world into the physical world. For example, you can measure temperature, light, CO2, distance, movement or humidity, and connect buttons, switches or displays to control and display information, or motors to set something in motion. If you see…

Verktøykassen: Video mapping

In this Verktøykassen (the Toolbox) we will learn how to map video on specific surfaces. It can be an object in the room, a house wall, or simply that you want to be in full control over how much of a surface your video will cover. We will use the software MadMapper.

Video player with Raspberry Pi

In this Verktøykassen (the Toolbox), we will make video players of Raspberry Pi mini computers. The video player is very easy to use: You just need to put a video file into a memory stick and it will automatically start playing the video in loop when it starts up. The video player will be able to play video files up…

Verktøykassen: Sound recording

In this Verktøykassen we will do sound recordings, and look into how different microphones can be used for different purposes. When is it good to use a directional microphone? And what microphones and microphone techniques are useful in field recordings? We will go through contact microphones, shotgun, stereo microphones, dpa, ambisonic, microphones for electromagnetic recordings, hydrophones, geophones, parabolas and microphone…
