The Carrier (2020) by Hanan Benammar
Video installation

Hanan Benammar has been invited by BEK to develop a new work that takes as its departure the formidable development of technology in the last 20 years, that we address in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of BEK this year. The installation is part of the echibition Latent City at Bergen Kjøtt 12 – 29 November, and this digital presentation will be available during the whole exhibition period. For many of us living in an urban context, pigeons are often described as “flying rats”. However, breeding pigeons is still a popular practice among small communities in Europe, and larger ones in the Middle-East. While narrating stories involving pigeons as protagonists, Hanan Benammar’s The Carrier is observing a loft or “duekleiv” in Askøy with a spy camera.
