loadbang: Using multi-touch interfaces

BEK introduce a new regular activity, loadbang, in collaboration with Bergen National Academy of the Arts. At regular intervals wee will offer a meeting place for artists and students working on real-time processing of media using software such as Max, SuperCollider and Pd, for exchange and discussions on a number of advanced topics. The first meeting will be focusing on the use of multi-touch interfaces.

Trond Lossius gives an introduction to electronic music for students of contemporary music at The Grieg Academy. The lecture will provide an overview of the history of electronic music, important composers, works, schools and artistic practices.

Publication on commision by composer Alwynne Pritchard

Don’t touch me, you don’t know where I’ve been was a commision by BEK from composer Alwynne Pritchard, premiered in 2008. The 7th issue of the Sensuous knowledge publication series on artistic research, is dedicated to two texts discussing the work, by the composer herself and Roar Sletteland, former director at BEK. An installation version of the work will be presented at Solstrand as part of the program for the 2009 Sensuous knowledge conference.

The Golden Serenades will perform a concert version of their sound installation at Bergen kunsthall. The installation was commissioned by BEK and shown at Lydgalleriet in 2008.

Celebrating Ketil Hvoslef

Avgarde celebrates the composer Ketil Hvoslef at 70 with a concert presenting excerpts from his oeuvre. Paintings by Line Hvoslef will provide a visual backdrop for the concert. BEK has assisted Line Hvoslef in preparing the images for video screening.

For An Epidemic Resistance

Jacqueline Hoang Nguyen is currently Artist-in-Residence at USF Verftet. During her residency, she is developing at BEK a thirty-channel dynamic installation entitled For An Epidemic Resistance, which will be presented at Galleri Pictura / Skånska konstmuseum as their official contribution to the music and art festival Full Pull;Kontra ’09.

Operasjon Almenrausch

Operation Almenrausch was the covername of the biggest operation against Norwegian resistance during the second world war, the attack on communist camp Buahaugen, in 1944. However, the operation is not commonly known today. Tore Vagn Lid takes a look at stories standing in the shadow of “good” war history. Operation Almenrausch won a Hedda Award in 2009.

Artist talk: Cléo Palacio-Quintin

For the last ten years Cléo Palacio-Quintin has been a pioneer within an emerging field of musicians playing hyper instruments; traditional instruments extended and reinvented through the use of sensor technology and live digital sound processing. Cléo Palacio-Quintin will be talking about her musical practice. The day before, Saturday 19th she is performing at USF as part of the Avgarde program.

Artist Talk: Terry Flaxton

British artist and film maker Terry Flaxton is our guest for the first artist talk this autumn. Terry Flaxton is a senior research fellow in HD Video Production at the University of Bristol, U.K. Terry Flaxton has been involved in the UK video art and indepent film milieu since the late seveties and has worked with a broad range of productions including documentaries, video installations and television productions, including one of the first tv-series on video art in the UK, made in 1985.
