Volt presents Maia Urstad : CARGO

Just about everything we surround ourselves with has been in a container at some point. The exhibition CARGO examines questions of communication across borders by land and by sea, the distribution of goods and benefits, access to resources and consumption and transport routes. It relates these themes to the schoolroom or classroom, a place where worldviews are made and knowledge is imparted to those who are to further develop society and democracy.

Nina Barnett and Robyn Nesbitt in Utsira

From 23 – 29 September, Nina Barnett and Robyn Nesbitt travelled to Utsira, a small island on the west coast of Norway. While staying in the old lighthouse keepers house, next to the lighthouse, Nina and Robyn looked closely at the landscape, the history and the community of the island – collecting their findings in written texts, video, sound recordings and material samples of the island’s topography.
