A selection of local and international sound artists, musicians and composers will each compose or improvise a short format multi-channel piece for this event. In order to draw or introduce the audience into diversified acousmatic experiences, this event will be built around a multi-mono wall of speakers. Some acts will be performed live and some will be per-composed and playback.

How do we listen, and how do you compose when the audience is surrounded by sound? Borealis collaborates with the MULTI concert series to commission new works for multi-channel speaker setup, giving new musicians, composers and sound artists the opportunity to express themselves using spatial sound.

MULTI is a collaboration between Lydgalleriet, NOTAM, Borealis, Electric Audio Unit and BEK.

Six female experimental musicians from Cairo visit Borealis 2016, giving a concert at Østre. While in Bergen they will also be introduced to surround and ambisonic sound and music production during a workshop in collaboration between Borealis, BEK and Lydgalleriet.

MULTI is a concert series presenting music and sound pieces for multichannel surround sound, exploring the musical and artistic expressions this setup reveals. The Borealis festival premiers new works by Anders Vinjar, Kari Telstad Sundet and Julian Skar.

Sourround sound is used for music, film production, games, video, sound installations and in sound design for stage. This workshop provides a practical and creative introduction to the topic for beginners, with a particular emphasis on using Ambisonics in the REAPER DAW.

The workshop is led by Trond Lossius and is a collaboration between BEK and Lydgalleriet.
