BEK opens the new year with a mini-festival, offering insight into BEKs latest and upcoming projects. We invite you to join us for a week of performances, workshops, screenings, and talks at BEK, Lydgalleriet, and Bergen Kjøtt.

Saturday, January 25

10:00-17:00 GRIP Course in Maintenance

GRIP Course in Maintenance at BEK will focus on cables: testing, fixing, and making. Instructor Kristoffer Jonsson will guide participants through continuity testing, troubleshooting, and visual inspections. You will also learn how to repair cables. The course covers basic DMX cables and their signals, and provides essential knowledge on electrical safety.

Tuesday, January 28

17:00-21:00 Workshop: Sounds of Resistance Mixtape with Amber Ablett

Through this workshop, we will practice listening together using exercises from Pauline Oliveros’ theory of Deep Listening and Gestalt awareness experiments. We will explore how listening can become part of liberation practices and how we can centre it within artistic practices.

Exhibition: Testing the Membranous Boundaries by Ingrid Bjørnaali, Fabian Lanzmaier and Maria Simmons

Testing the Membranous Boundaries is a cross-Atlantic audio visual collaboration by Ingrid Bjørnaali, Fabian Lanzmaier and Maria Simmons that explores the embodiment and translation of peatland knowledge through blending physical engagement with digital interpretations.

Welcome to the exhibition opening on Thursday, January 30, 19:00 – 21:00. We are open Friday through Sunday from 12:00 – 17:00.

Part of New Perspectives for Action – a project by Re-Imagine Europe, co-funded by the European Union.

Presentations and performances in BEK’s project room with Mona Hedayati, Fabian Lanzmaier, Ananda Serné, and Sean Minhui Tashi Chua. Each artist, all of whom are connected to a recent or ongoing residency at BEK, offers insight into their processes and presents their work. Here, you will experience everything from short films comparing wind and whistling to biosensors revealing our reaction patterns and much more in between.

18:00 – 20:00 Filmscreening and conversation: Everything Worthwhile is Done with Other People by Rehana Zaman and Everything Worthwhile collective

The film Everything Worthwhile is Done with Other People explores the conversations, experiences, and dreams of freedom shared by a group of women impacted by the carceral system, particularly through the UK government’s hostile environment policy and prison system. 

After the screening there will be a conversation with the filmmaker Rehana Zaman and members of the Everything Worthwhile collective.
