Karen Werner is doing a Work Residency at BEK – from home. In her dining room she has set up a SkottegatenFM transmission point from where she is transmitting daily and is helping interested neighbours broadcast from their homes. SkottegatenFM is a three-month micro-FM radio station transmitting at 88.6FM from homes on Skottegaten and surrounding streets in Nordnes. Anyone in listening range can tune in!
Launched on February 6, 2021, SkottegatenFM is a three-month micro-FM radio station transmitting at 88.6FM from homes on Skottegaten and surrounding streets in Nordnes. Anyone in the listening range can borrow a transmitter and do a one-time or regular broadcast from their home; one is never sure where the signal originates from. The programme schedule is distributed to neighbours monthly on homemade postcards. So far there are transmissions everyday at noon with a line-up of poetry, interviews, Norwegian words for beginners, weekend music and on-air calls and music every Saturday night at 20:00. Other programmes are popping up including occasional broadcasts late in the night.

Karen Werner
Karen Werner is a radio artist and sociologist who moved to Bergen in 2020 and has recently made radio pieces for MÆKUR, Wave Farm, RUMMUR_Radio, RadioArt106FM and USMARadio. In 2016, she launched Strange Radio, a series of radio compositions, sound installations and live performances with transmitter supported by Tonspur Kunstverein Wien, Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier, studio das weisse haus, Kone Foundation’s Saari Residency, Kunstradio, Orange94.0FM and the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture. In 2019-2020, Karen was the Inaugural Radio Artist Fellow at Wave Farm in New York.
