“AIR” is a newly commissioned audiovisual performance by patten (Damien Roach), working within the realms of modern composition, ambient, and classical music. “AIR” is a constantly shifting and hypnotic musical suite assembled from hundreds of sound clips generated using text-to-audio AI systems, and layered, edited, and digitally processed into a lysergic and emotionally affecting collage of dreamlike sound. The piece is accompanied by a longform AI-assisted animated film complimenting the latent space derived internal landscapes of “AIR”’s drifting sonics with imagery surveying machine learning envisioned depictions of our planet’s physical terrain, via maps, drone photography, painting, cinema, and satellite imagery.
