Knut Vaage: Veslefrikk

Veslefrikk is a new family opera based on Asbjørnsen & Moe’s classic fairytale.
Knut Vaage and Torgeir Rebolledo Pedersen’s opera is based on the fairytale “Veslefrikk with the fiddle”, but is also a brand new work related to present time. BEK has been assisting the development of the opera, where Thorolf Thuestad collaborates with composer Knut Vaage in programming and sound design.
In the opera, Veslefrikk is a girl. She works in a doll factory where evil forces is holding her captive. But with help from her magic fiddle and the music’s mesmerizing power, she finds the path to freedom.
Veslefrikk is an opera with humor, fun and joy of life, while also affecting the shadow aspects of many children and young people’s life today. The director is Robert Alföldi, while the main roles of Veslefrikk and Dagens Don is played by Iulia Vacaru and Alexander Polkovnikov. Singers from KorVest have the other roles in the play, and the orchestra is the BIT20 Ensamble.
Veslefrikk is produced by Den Nye Opera in collaboration with Armel Opera Competition and Festival, Nordnorsk Opera og Symfoniorkester, Kulturhuset i Tromsø and Den Nasjonale Scene. Veslefrikk is an AdOpera! production, and is developed through Operatoriet. Software is developed at BEK, Bergen senter for elektronisk kunst.
The opera is recommended for children over 7 years, and is shown on Småscenen Friday the 29th of October at 5 and 7 pm, and Saturday the 30th of October at 4 and 6 pm.
