Glimpses from BEK Opening Week 2024
Published
Thank you to everyone who took part in the opening week at BEK. With sound and listening in focus the week started with a workshop in expanded listening by Alan Courtis, known from the band Reynols and his diverse musical experiments, including many with Pauline Oliveros. Arild Boman, Kjersti Sundland, Roy Claire Potter, Maia Urstad and Ashley Holmes filled the Saturday with lectures, artist presentations and sound performances in the project room at BEK. We ended the week with the Norwegian premiere of the film Deep Listening: The Story of Pauline Oliveros at Cinemateket Bergen. Bergen was well represented in the film, with documentation of one of Oliveros’ last pieces, which premiered at Sentralbadet during Bergen Assembly 2016, performed by the BIT20 Ensemble.
The workshop “Expanded Listening” was presented in collaboration with NyMusikk Bergen, and the film Deep Listening: The Story of Pauline Oliveros was shown in collaboration with Cinemateket Bergen. The piece Shit Out Here Purple by Roy Claire Potter was commissioned by BEK, and is part of New Perspectives for Action. A project of Re-Imagine Europe, part-financed by the European Union.
