We round off BEK’s Opening Week 2020 with concerts by Niklas Adam, John Brennan and Tolga Balci, before DJ Tolga Balci takes over! The concert night is free and open to everyone. The doors open at 19.00. We hope to see many of you there!
Niklas Adam (b. 1986) is a Danish artist, composer, performer and sound and art technician currently based in Oslo. Niklas uses programming and electronics to generate instruments and/or situations with an inherent open sentiment, and from there he examines how the ability of this work can break loose from the traditional behavioral patterns of listening and immediacy. Investigating superimposed and broken relationships between music, mechanics, kinetics, electronics, stage action, platformenvironment and structure. Sound, movement, perception and how we choose to interpret the outside world in the relation to our own position in it, is a recurring theme in his work – which is often demanding and patient.
You can find some of Niklas’ releases at the labels BIN (Copenhagen) and SOFA (Oslo). He performed in Europe, Russia, USA, South Korea and Japan, and at Stedelijk Museum / Sonic Acts in Amsterdam, BAM / New Wave Festival in New York, Henie Onstad and Black Box Teater in Oslo, to name a few. Niklas has twice been awarded the Norwegian Arts Council artist stipend and the Danish Arts Council publication stipend. He has toured around the world with the New York Bessie award-winning art collective Verdensteatret.
John Brennan is a sound artist, drummer, and new music curator living in Vancouver, Canada. He has a BFA in Electroacoustic Studies from Concordia University and has toured extensively through Europe, Japan, and North America. Among the artists he performed, recorded and collaborated with are Elisa Ferrari, Raven Chacon, Chris Corsano, Nate Wooley, Marshall Trammell, William Hooker, Greg Saunier, Graham Lambkin, Jeneen Frei Njootli, Áine O’Dwyer, John Dikeman, Chris Cogburn, DJ Olive among others. Between 2012 and 2016 he founded and curated Destroy Vancouver (DV) an improvised music and sound art series produced by VIVO Media Arts Centre. In recent years, his work on performance and improvisation has expanded to include sound installations and sound sculptures that consider the relationship between the sonic memory of musical instruments, performance, and improvisation.
Tolga Balci (b. 1983 Turkey) is an artist, scenographer, and composer, living and working in Bergen. For this occasion he will perform a concert, before turning into DJ Tolga Balci.
