Work Residency: Ayatgali Tuleubek

We are very happy to have Ayatgali Tuleubek in our studios these weeks, who have been invited to Bergen in a collaboration between Aldea, Hordaland Art Centre and BEK. Earlier this summer, he was one of the tutors at Hordaland Art Centre’s Summer Academy, and at the end of September, the work currently being developed at BEK will be shown in Aldea’s…

Invitation: Participate in the art project “Gruppebilde Bergen 2020”

Submit a portrait of yourself here www.gruppebilde.bek.no, and become part of a group image with Bergen's residents! Using technology that interprets photographs and creates new images, artist Toril Johannessen will create a comprehensive group image based on submitted portrait photos. Verktøykassen: Max

Our latest Verktøykassen (the Toolbox) offering is an introductory workshop in the development tool Max: a flexible, powerful visual programming software that uses on-screen boxes and “wires”. In addition to making complex sounds and music, you will have the oportunity to manipulate videos or create animations. Max also allows you to connect all kinds of keyboards, controller knobs and other…

Listening Through: Machine Learning for Sound-Makers – A workshop led by Luke Fischbeck

This will be a short, intensive workshop exploring the current state of machine learning techniques for working creatively with audio. As a set of approaches for predictive pattern-matching—classifying, categorizing, translating, generating, etc—machine learning has been applied to everything from captions to gestures to maps to MIDI. Audio, with its intensely complex set of perceptual and contextual resonances, provides a tricky…

Verktøykassen: Soldering

In this Verktøykassen (the Toolbox) we will learn basic soldering. We start by creating a prototype on a protoboard, which we then will move to a permaprotoboard. In exhibition scenarios or other similar uses where, for example, your Arduino is to be used by people, it is essential to secure solder links to prevent the circuit from breaking.

Verktøykassen: Arduino

Arduino is a small circuit board that you can use to bring the physical world into the data world, and the data world into the physical world. For example, you can measure temperature, light, CO2, distance, movement or humidity, and connect buttons, switches or displays to control and display information, or motors to set something in motion. If you see…

Sabine Popp: Relay (how to use a ship to press the button of a camera)

Stian Ramvik at BEK is helping Sabine Popp with synchronization of video material for the upcoming exhibition Relay (how to use a ship to press the button of a camera) which opens at Visningsrommet USF on December 3. The video material forms the framework for a performance, and Popp need to easily control the synchronized videos as part of this.…

Verktøykassen: Video mapping

In this Verktøykassen (the Toolbox) we will learn how to map video on specific surfaces. It can be an object in the room, a house wall, or simply that you want to be in full control over how much of a surface your video will cover. We will use the software MadMapper.
