Andrew M. McKenzie is a legend of the sound art and experimental music scene. With great perseverance and integrity, McKenzie has, since the late 1970s, produced a large body of work, predominantly in performances, records and writings under the name The Hafler Trio.
At BEK we will be screening the documentary “Giving a Baby a Chainsaw – An Art Apart: The Hafler Trio”, followed by a conversation with McKenzie on his work and thinking.
The artist and researcher Ximena Alarcón from CRISAP (Creative Research in Sound Arts Practice) visits BEK in week 7. Friday February 19 she will give an artist talk, presenting her artistic practise, and also discuss her ongoing work on ‘Sound Matters: a framework for the creative use and re-use of sound’.
Gunhild Mathea Olaussen is a fellow at the Fellowship Program for Artistic Research, Norwegian Theatre Academy, Østfold University College. Here at BEK, on Friday 20 Nov. kl. 13.00, she speaks about the main trends in her private research work and her planned projects in 2016. We start with a small lunch.
The composer Jason Thorpe Buchanan is currently artist in residency at USF. Jason Thorpe Buchanan’s works have been described as “an unearthly collage of sounds”, “sharply-edged”, and “free jazz gone wrong”. He will talk about his artistic work, with a particular emphasis on his plans for the stay in Bergen.
Gail Priest is a Sydney-based artist with a multi-faceted practice in which sound is the key material of communication and investigation. In October BEK hosts her for a short-term residency. During the stay she will give an artist talk, presenting her work as an artist, curator and writer. She will also present the Audible Women project — an online directory for women who make some kind of art that can be heard.
Trond Lossius contributes to a workshop at SCRIME – Studio de Création et de Recherche en Informatique et Musique Electro-acoustique at Université de Bordeaux.
He will discuss his use of surround field recordings in his artistic practice, and share his aesthetically and practical experience working with such recordings.
Marieke Verbiesen´s Mayhem Machine will be showed at the Incubate Festival in Tilburg – from 14-22nd of september at Incubate´s DIY Synth Fair.
The End(s) of Electronic Literature Conference will take place August 5-7, 2015, and is hosted by the Electronic Literature Research Group at the University of Bergen. Pre-conference workshops will take place on August 4th. BEK supports the conference with equipment.
