Throughout the ages, man has sought together in community. For love, for friendship, for getting the job done, for building society. This time is no exception. We seek together more than ever, but the community of our time is ambivalent. Everyone wants to be seen, everyone can see – and everyone keeps their thoughts to themselves.

Marit Eikemo has been invited by BEK to write a text that takes as its departure the formidable development of technology in the last 20 years, that we address in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of BEK this year. The text will also be presented at Latent City – Invisible Fields #2 at Bergen Kjøtt 21 November.

Marit Eikemo (b. 1971, Odda) lives in Bergen. She has previously worked as a magazine editor, festival director for the Literature Symposium in Odda, publishing editor and as the director of Cornerteateret i Bergen. She is currently the artistic advisor for the Norwegian Literature Festival in Lillehammer. Eikemo made her debut in 1999 with the interview book Her, no. Møte med unge menneske. Her first novel, Mellom oss sagt, came out in 2006. Eikemo has published a total of five novels and a collection of short stories. She has also written the essay book Samtidsruinar. Eikemo received the Amalie Skram-prisen 2017 for her writing, and was a festival poet at Dei nynorske festspela in 2018. In 2019, she received Samlagsprisen.

Latent City

Latent City presents artistic productions dealing with the city’s hidden stories. Seen through the lens of artistic observation, hidden stories, latent infrastructures and questions of digital presence and of power and democracy in our cities, meet in an exhibition that takes place over three weeks. The Latent City is the city that awaits, the one that is about to unfold, our common future city.

Several of the art projects are financed or commissioned by BEK, while others are existing works presented in new formats. A video program will be on show throughout the project period and there will be an extensive program of talks and performances. Please read more about the project and the programme here.
