In the run up to BEKs symposium The Only Lasting Truth is Change: Voice, Seed, Brutality. Russell Haswell will host a 2 day workshop that will culminate in a live collective diffusion on the final day of the symposium 23. November.

Practical Information

All our workshops are free and open to all, please only sign up if you will be able to commit to the full time listed in the announcement. Please note that times may vary but you will be kept up to date ahead of the workshop. if you have any questions please email morten@bek.no

The workshop will be held in English in BEKs’ project room [C.Sundts gate. 55, Bergen]. 

We will provide simple lunch and snacks.  

It is not necessary to bring a laptop or computer for this workshop. The software we will be using has only just been released and is currently available exclusively for Mac. We will provide access to in-house machines and sound cards for participants to use.

For those who wish to use the software on their own laptops: Atelier runs on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. The oldest operating system supported is macOS 10.14 Mojave (2018). It performs well on a 2015 MacBook Pro with 8 GB of RAM. Link to the software: https://grm.tools

Please bring your instrument of choice with the appropriate cables to connect to our mixer jack/xlr. The choice of instrument is entirely up to the participant. If you bring an acoustic instrument or your voice, we will arrange to record or microphone it as needed and then work with the recorded files.

RUSSELL HASWELL

RUSSELL HASWELL is an artist, record producer, free improvisor, computer musician, noise aficionado, and curator. He was trained at Coventry School of Art, graduating in 1991. Russell’s extraordinary conceptual oeuvre resists easy summarisation, focused on the site-specific, performance and methodology of large-scale sound works, sometimes in surround. He has given solo audio presentations at major Art and Music festivals and events, in art galleries, concert halls, night clubs and rock venues in 36 countries and counting. Most recently at the Pirelli HangarBicocca, Sonar Festival, ICA and Coventry Cathedral. As a curator, he has delivered projects for PS1/MoMa, All Tomorrow’s Parties, Aldeburgh Music, Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary and Cafe Oto. He lives and works in Glasgow.
