Masterclass with Selwa Abd (Bergsonist)
Published
BEK and Ekko are excited to invite you to a masterclass with Selwa Abd aka Bergsonist, multidisciplinary artist, composer and DJ. Abd will present her latest project “As if Reality?”, share results and processes of her week-long residency at BEK, and invite the audience into a conversation about sound, fragments, and systems.
“As If Reality?” is a series of works by Bergsonist, seeking to explore the intricacies of human existence by navigating the line between tangible reality and the expanding virtual realms. Through sonic and visual simulations, it extends creative research and speculations about the future. The project culminated in two time-based audiovisual performances and the release of an album, made possible by support from The Jerome Foundation. The works were finalised during Abd’s artistic residency at ISSUE Project Room, in partnership with Harvestworks in 2022.
The masterclass is addressed to artists, musicians and other people interested in electronic music production and artistic research.
Time: Thursday 31 October, 19:00–21:00, doors 18:30
Place: BEK, C. Sundts gt 55, 9th floor
Sign-up: Attendance is free, but registration is required – sign up beforehand here.
From 25 October to 1 November Selwa Abd holds a residency in BEK’s sound studio. Bergsonist will perform at the Ekko Festival on 1 November. The masterclass and concert are presented by BEK – Bergen Centre for Electronic Arts and Ekko Festival.
Selwa Abd (Bergsonist)
Selwa Abd is a Moroccan-born artist, music composer, and freelance designer/consultant based in New York City. Her prolific and thought-provoking output challenges critical questions surrounding the future of technology, her own fragmented personal identity shaped by the complexities of post-colonial urban environments, and the influence of virtual realities on contemporary society. Inspired by Deleuze’s interpretation of Henri Bergson’s philosophical framework, she embraces intuition as a legitimate method for investigating these complex issues in all her creative endeavors.
