BEK, C. Sundts gate 55, floor 9.
With Ada LaNerd
The workshop is free and will be hosted in English.

A π-box is a modular system of radio/ streaming broadcast, composed of multiple inputs and outputs. The π-box aims to provide a multi-functional and easy to use micro-FM and Streaming micro radio station. It is based on the mini-fm approach, developed in the 80’s by the Japanese artist and researcher Tetsuo Kogawa, which promotes radio transmissions of FM waves upon a tiny perimeter such as a house or block or small zone. The π-box combines this ultra local transmission with internet possibilities (through ethernet, WiFI or 3G/4G), to leverage all the possibilities of hybrid transmissions. The system is open source and based on open source software/ hardware.

We will make π-boxes from BEK’s raspberry pi’s. If you want to keep your π-box, consider ordering and bringing a raspberry pi version 4 with you: https://www.raspberrypi.com/products/raspberry-pi-4-model-b/

This π-box workshop is part of a fall trajectory course, “How to Cook a Radio Station,” taught by Karen Werner at the Bergen Architecture School as part of Bergen Assembly 2025. Participants in the trajectory course are making and running a radio station for Bergen Assembly 2025. We are opening 5 seats in this π-box workshop so that the broader Bergen community can learn directly from π-node collective about this decentralized and innovative approach to radio and radio art.
