This past week, Pauline Hogstrand and Ingri Høyland have been working in BEK’s Project Room, developing a new commissioned work for EKKO Festival 2026 as part of a residency at BEK in collaboration with EKKO Festival.

EKKO XXIII

Pauline Hogstrand and Ingri Høyland present a new commissioned work exploring the relationship between acoustic and electronic sound. Through evolving textures, resonances and sonic transformations, the piece unfolds as a shared sonic landscape in which the boundaries between the organic and the synthetic continually shift. Developed specifically for EKKO Festival 2026, the work marks the artists’ first collaboration.

Pauline Hogstrand

Pauline Hogstrand is a composer, violist, and performer whose work moves fluidly between acoustic, electroacoustic, and collective formats. Rooted in classical training and experimental practice, her music unfolds in patiently evolving forms—where intimate noise, detailed textures, and organised chaos coexist with structural clarity.

Ingri Høyland

The Norwegian composer and interdisciplinary artist Ingri Høyland works at the intersection of sound, text, and form—creating immersive musical worlds where voice, language, and electronic textures dissolve into one another. With a background from the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen, she draws on a diverse practice that includes writing, sculpture, and filmmaking to build compositions that invite listeners into shifting atmospheres of shape, sensation, and story.

EKKO XXIII

Ekko Festival is an annual festival for experimental and electronic music in Bergen, with the first edition taking place in 2003. The festival is organised by Ekko at Østre, as well as at various venues across Bergen and the surrounding area. The festival focuses on presenting both an international and a local programme of experimental and electronic music, spanning a wide range of genres, subgenres and distinctive expressions. At the festival, you can experience established artists, discover new projects, exciting sound art, installations, exhibitions and talks, as well as intense club-oriented experiences and boundary-pushing DJs who are driving the electronic music scene forward.
