Marwa Arsanios: Three notes on political animals

Through three intertwined notes, Marwa Arsanios traces the animal’s entanglement with the histories of land, labor, and resistance. soso brafield: Conflict Grains

Rice, wheat, maize, barley, sorghum, millet; all staple grains that are central to daily life in regions that are experiencing conflict. By bringing these grains into a humble shared meal, Conflict Grains seeks to frame eating as a form of attention: a moment of togetherness, to reflect, and gently acknowledge the interconnectedness between sustenance and survival. The dinner becomes both a gathering and a quiet question — how do we nourish ourselves amid ongoing violence, and what does it mean to share that nourishment across distance?
