Tuesday 19th of March Jazz Improv band Bly de Blyant will celebrate the release of their album “ABC” with a concert at Landmark Bergen Kunsthall, teaming up with improv visualist Marieke Verbiesen during the evening “Playdate”

In collaborations with Borealis and Utmark we have been hosting rehearsals by the Langham Research Center and AR. The Langham Research Centre performed Eschatology, one of their own pieces, and they played a Notations Project Performance written by Andrea Spreafico. AR, a musical duo consisting of Richard Skelton and Autumn Richardson, premiered new music from their upcoming album, a follow up to Wolf Notes.

The two artists behind The Sun-project will come to BEK and give an artist talk/presentation of the project. BEK will serve a basic and tasteful lunch. The SUN is a glowing light sculpture, 3 m in diameter, that shifts between a wide range of warm colors.

What happens when sound is being absorbed rather than reflected? How do we subconciously use hearing to navigate space. Experience variations from absolute, pressing silence to illusions of soundcapes in one of the most fascinating rooms to be found in Bergen. The sound installation “Lontano” lasts about half an hour and can be experienced during the Borealis Festival – from 6 to 10 March – every hour between 12 and 16. There is very limited space, so sign up in advance.

On the first of March, Espen Sommers Eide’s project Dead Language Poetry is opening in NO.5 at Bergen Kunsthall. This winter, Espen has used BEKs project room to develop, build and test a sample of self-made instruments, or “Philosophical Instruments” as he calls them. These will constitute the main component of the exhibition, and relate to different aspects of language and language’s transience.

A small team has been formed to make an outdoor sound sculpture. The working title of the project is “Archangelica”. The creation of the sounds will be based on rain hitting the metal surface of the sculpture. A workshop took place in Fitjar on the 25th and the 26th of January.

For a two year period 2012-2014 BEK participation in the development of Jamoma is supported by Hordaland County Council. Development will be focusing on control of real-time processing environments in live productions, development of flexible interfaces, and work on surround sound. The project encompass development, documentation, developer and training workshops, and the use of Jamoma in various art projects.

BEK and Bergen Public Library collaborates on development of Les HØYT!, an arena for reading aloud. Citizens of Bergen and users of the library will be invited to contribute towards a collective reading of litterature for an unknown audience by means of a digital installation. Reading activities will commence during the fall 2013. Stian Remvik has been hired by BEK to do the technical development. Les Høyt! is supported by National Library of Norway and Arts Council Norway.
